Strange Cambodian Fruit Ice Smoothie

Today I tested out my new blender. I tried to make an ice smoothie with the strange fruit from two days ago  called “See-daa (សុីដ ា)”

Two handfuls of ice cubes into the blender along with one fruit without skin and seed of course. And then I squeezed in the juice from two limes through a sieve to stop the pips. And then blend………….

First of all the ice decided it would rather stay lumpy than sloshy and the resulting blended fruit was way too thick. I added a bit of water…and tasted it!

It tasted awful : -) !!

I guess I had a feeling beforehand that it wouldn’t work out-the fruit didn’t taste like it would make a good smoothie. I didn’t want to throw it away…..but after tasting the fruits of my labour, I chucked the second fruit in the bin (without any guilty feeling ‘cos hey, I tried)!!

Note added 17th September 2012:

The fruit is called egg fruit, canistel or yellow sapote. It is available in Central and South America as well as parts of Asia. I’ve found many entries on what one can do with the fruit. Everything from baking in a pie to making a milk shake. I don’t drink milk but maybe I’ll try it with soya milk or coconut milk in the future.

  1. At least you tried! Was the fruit by any chance a “guava”?
