Massage Girls – The Party!! Tuek Dey Massage, Angkor Night Market, Siem Reap, Cambodia, September 2012

The title brings all sorts of ideas to mind!! All of these ideas are errmm…. not true!! It wasn’t a party where everyone massaged one another in oil which then became a full blown orgy. You didn’t think this?? Oh, I guess it’s just me with my dirty mind 🙂

When I first came here last year I had never been for a massage (where I had to pay) because back in Germany or England I couldn’t afford it! I hadn’t been to Thailand yet and had no idea. Being single for over a year I was soon overcome with the number of massage places here that offer traditional Khmer massages at a price that is ridiculous. For an hour of full body massage you can expect to pay anything between US $ 5-15. This is a pittance compared to the 60 euros in Berlin. Of course it depends on which type of massage and what additional favours you wish which will push the price up.

Tuek Dey Massage near the Angkor Night Market, Siem Reap, soon became my favourite! Mainly because then I fell for the first girl I had a massage from…and then proceeded the following 2 months chasing after her of no avail. That was last year. I became friends with many of the girls who worked at this particular place and the owner, S. who runs it.

I was shocked to learn that the girls & boys earn between $30-80 a month as a fixed wage. This is so little even for here. Not enough to pay for a room and hardly enough for food. They actually live off the tips they get. They also get a small commission per massage.

So if you ever come here to Cambodia and go for a massage-GIVE A TIP of at least a dollar!!!!! This won’t kill you and will feed the boy or girl for the day!! Usually the monthly wage they earn goes towards feeding their  family. And families here are big!!

Last year – I was here on an extended holiday-I went for a massage almost everyday!! Totally amazing and well worth it!! I was new here and was invited to a party at the above named place with lots of Khmer food and Khmer whiskey.

This year – 2 months ago I made a big dinner as a thank you for all who worked at this particular place! It was also a test to see if they would like the food I cook. Being Khmer-like in bangladesh-they like Khmer food and are very suspicious of anything different. I am glad to say the party went on till 2am until everyone was drunk and most of the food was finished 🙂 !!
