So I finally went out and bought a blender today. It cost $18 and was the second cheapest I could find. Very exciting all the things I can do with it. Let’s see if it doesn’t end up like my juice maker. After a couple of delicious juices it just sat on my shelf and collected dust for years.
Anyway here’s my new blender. There’s even a little juice-maker part on the left there that fits into the jug. Curious if that works. Of course there’s a grinder for hard spices and nuts. I love this contraption.
I’ve been using a mortar and pestle so far in Cambodia but I can’t get the spice mix anywhere near smooth. On the right is the wooden one which I’ve been using for everything-garlic, onion, ginger and even whole spices like cumin and coriander seeds. I read online that the wooden one is for vegetables. The stone one is for spices. So off I went and bought a stone one. Alas the darned thing is so heavy that I put it on my storage space under my kitchen worktop where it has stayed until today (I had to take it out to photograph : )
